No reduction a think pop-culture management than Howard Stern has regularly admitted that "everyone loves lesbians!" But what do lesbians love? Rhino Records resolutely claims to know a low-pitched answer to that doubt on this richly heterogeneous collection of womanlike artists gathered for a lesbian audience. And if that's a bold--if straightforwardly transparent--marketing move, it shouldn't confuse one from a attracts of this cross-genre compilation. The songs here run a progression from acoustic angst (Ani DiFranco) to cocktail (Wendy and Lisa, Jill Sobule), MOR (Taylor Dayne), folk (Two Nice Girls), and dance (Fem 2 Fem). k.d. lang contributes "Just Keep Me Moving," while cult fave Phranc gives Herman's Hermits old "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" a new slant. The emotions operation from heated sensuality (particularly Janis Ian's moist "Ride Me Like a Wave") to a steely pragmatism of Sandra Bernhard's reconstitute of Paul Simon's "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover." -Jerry McCulley

5Not only for women.

By Gabe Scalone

I'm a true guy. Matter of fact, we demeanour like a bouncer who wouldn't let we into that bar in college. That carrying been said, let's pitch all stereotypes, theirs no room for them in music. we know a normal patron would boot this pretension though giving it a second look. But, Lesbian Favorites earns, during slightest a peak. We all know and honour K.D. Lang, Taylor Dayne, and Ani DiFranco. If you're a fan, chances are we already have these songs. But, it's a artistes who've been stealing in a periphery that make this collection compulsory listening for folk/rock fans. Case in point: Gretchen Phillips who gained prominence with Two Nice Girls in a early nineties. You remember, she was a designer behind a alt classical "I spent my final $10.00 on birth control and beer." What? Haven't listened it. No problem, it's lane 18. As for Grech's formerly unissued cut "Swimming", take my word that it would plea a sensuality of any other strain on a market. Another important is Disappear Fear. A nifty duet from Maryland, that lives median between a Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin. Others such as: Jane Siberry, Farron, Dar Williams, and Janis Ian have been creation good strain for a prolonged time and merit their day in court. If you're a folk/rock fan afterwards check out this groovy representation of best musicians.

4A good brew of talent

By S. Senft

If we suffer this form of music, we won't be dissapointed by this album. A few good known-artists, such as k.d. lang, Ani DiFranco, and Jill Solbule appear, as good as some obtuse famous artists such as Gretchen Philips, and Wendy&Lisa contribute. Jill Solbule shines with a perky, gleefull "I Kissed a Girl." Ani DiFranco adds a thoughtfull story "In or Out" about complexities of relationships. Dar Williams has a guitar-and accordian(?) driven "As cold as we am." Jane Siberry sings a flowy, mysterious, slow-paced nonetheless well-driven "Temple."
I was a bit let down that some other artists did not appear, such as Melissa Etheridge, and M'Shell N'Degcello. However, we did suffer a oppurtunity to hear some new voices, such as Fem 2 Fem, Betty, Phranc. Well value checking out.

4A contingency possess possession!

You're a girl. You do dishes to Belly, we do 'the depressed thing' to Tori, we sing along to a Indigo Girls like you're in front of a campfire. You need a record like this to live by, to duty by. None of a aforementioned artists are on this record, though their ilk is. Kristen Hall's strain is great, and who can not adore a womanlike reconstitute of 50 ways to leave your lover? we would give it 5 stars though a enclosed Fem2Fem, a terrible, terrible rope whose savvy masculine manager, strain author etc. has done homosexuality their categorical offered point.
